We are so grateful for your support!
Owen’s Law is not a charity so we do not accept financial donations. The support we ask of you is action! You can help our campaign in one of the following ways:
NATIONAL IMPACT: CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MP
The best way to encourage a change in the law is to contact your MP either, in person at their regular clinics, or by writing to them via email or post. Please ask them to write to Daniel Zeichner MP of DEFRA, who has the power to adopt the FSA’s recommendation and cement Owen’s Law in legislations. When you write to your MP you must demonstrate that you live in their constituency by confirming your address.
Find out how to contact your MP here and visit our resources page for a draft letter which you are welcome to copy, edit and send.
REGIONAL IMPACT: CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL
In May 2024, Cllr Geoffrey Seeff proposed a motion to Cambridgeshire County Council’s Chief Executive, urging the council’s Public Health and Trading Standards teams - and Environmental Health teams in the district councils - to raise awareness within Cambridgeshire’s hospitality sector of the risks to allergy sufferers of not having access to reliable written information on the allergens used in prepared food.
Cllr Seeff said “I am delighted that the council agreed to adopt this motion. It will go a long way to introducing a consistency of information across the hospitality sector which hopefully will minimise the dangers caused by allergenic reactions which many customers may be unaware of unless they are told. We are the first council in the country to take this stance, and I hope other authorities will follow Cambridgeshire’s example,” he added.
We encourage our supporters to contact their local councillors and ask them to implement Owen’s Law as best practice in advance of the law being changed.
LOCAL IMPACT: CALLING CARDS
Our calling cards, created and launched last year with our friends at Allergen Checker, have been a huge success! Designed for the customer to complete and leave at a restaurant following a meal, giving feedback on how well the establishment provides allergy information and complies with our proposed change in the law. Our hopes are that by providing this gentle feedback, and some basic information abut our campaign, we can get more and more restaurants to comply with our allergy guidelines.
We can send these out in packs of 10, free of charge. If you would like a pack (or two if you eat out regularly), please email us with your address.
BUSINESS IMPACT: MAKE CHANGE WHERE YOU WORK
Do you work at an independent restaurant, a chain of eateries, a catering company, a national department store who offer dining to customers, or maybe you have catering at your office, school or university? We’d love to work with catering managers to support them making positive changes to how they deliver allergen information.
Please get in touch directly, pass on the contact details of the relevant managers within your company, or ask them to contact us. We’d also love to hear from companies already implementing Owen’s Law to discuss any challenges or successes you’ve experienced. We look forward to working together to make dining experiences safe for everyone.
